ECONYL® X SARAWAGI

1/10

SYNTHETIC SEAS RUG

Emphasises the detrimental impact on our oceans with a focus on environmental sustainability of reusing textiles with an industry first collection created from, ECONYL®, 100% regenerated nylon. From abandoned fishing nets and discarded nylons.

Isobel’s vision showcases the familiar sight of ocean ripples mirrored on the sea bed with the tangle of fishing nets. Chilled turquoise blues with cool white tones and dramatic deep navy with a zap of orange bring to life the challenge of our polluted oceans.

The aim of this collection is to open people’s eyes to the plastic epidemic of our planet and the change that is needed.

Rug measures 8ft x 10ft. Made from ECONYL® in Nepali weave, in Nepal.

As a new rug designer

I was excited by the challenge that this project brings — ocean inspired pieces that don’t damage the earth.

I have a passion for eco friendly solutions for wildlife and the environment, I’m dedicated to a better quality of life for myself, society and future generations

Social responsibility is important to me and many others. This partnership offers the amazing opportunity to reduce textile waste and collaborate with influential brands; ECONYL® and Sarawagi Rugs and industry expert The Ruggist.

The recycled nylon that ECONYL® provides offers a versatile solution to the rug and carpet industry and I’m proud to create designs with what I believe is the future of textiles.

Being inspired by nature I was excited to part of this world-first although I did have some questions about how the colour and texture of the rug would be impacted. Using recycled nylon has completely changed my outlook on materials - this sustainable material has made me keen to continue working with ECONYL® - why would we need to create new nylon when a sustainable source is available?

That combined with expert craftsmanship from Sarawagi rugs has meant this project has been a complete pleasure - I’m happy to have played my part in something that will hopefully revolutionise the rug industry.
